WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING?
ROTTERDAM KUNSTHALL
13 Dec 2025 - 3 May 2026
David Shrigley presented a major solo exhibition at Kunsthal Rotterdam at the end of 2025, entitled What The Hell Was I Thinking?.
David turned his gaze inward for the first time, giving a glimpse inside his mind. Throughout the presentation he looked back on earlier pieces and ideas, giving space to doubt and scrutiny of both his own work and society.
The exhibition brought together a wide selection of his works: fifty new drawings, a three-metre tall nude life model, horseshoes forged from meteorite, one-stringed guitars, and numerous inflatable sculptures, including his iconic Swan Things.
Shrig Shop was lovingly recreated as the last room of the exhibition including with over 500 individual drawings pasted on to the walls, 18,000 piece badge installation and neon signage.
The installation functioned as a real shop for visitors, where they could take a piece of Shrigley home with them.
We made some bespoke what The Hell Was I Thinking merchandise for the show, which is also available on our webshop. Items are available individually or as a gift set here.
